2009 Capitol Ornament
Number fourteen in the series, this year's ornament is a replica of the bold and distinctive bronze door knobs that are featured prominently on the stately doors found throughout the Capitol. Capitol hardware, including the elaborate door knobs and escutcheon plate featured as the 2009 holiday ornament, are decorated with incised designs of geometric and stylized floral motifs. This style of decoration, highly fashionable in the late nineteenth century, reflects the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles of architecture and decorative arts. In the center of each door knob is the venerable Lone Star of Texas. As bold and distinctive as Texas, it continues to symbolize the independent spirit of our state and its inhabitants. $18.00 2008 Capitol Ornament
Number thirteen in the series, this remarkably intricate Capitol Ornament replicates the central rotunda's impressive terrazzo floor design. In celebration of the 1936 Texas Centennial, terrazzo flooring was installed throughout the first level of the Capitol. Positioned at the center of the immense rotunda floor is the Great Seal of the Republic of Texas, surrounded by the five seals of the sovereign nations that have governed all or part of Texas. It is breathtaking when viewed from the fourth floor Rotunda Gallery. $18.00 2007 Capitol Ornament
Number twelve in the series, this distinctive Capitol Ornament highlights the intricate detailing of the designs found in the glass transoms, door panels and skylights throughout the interior of the monumental Capitol building. These designs are among the original architectural drawings produced by E. E. Myers in the late 1880's. The 19th Century glass decorating process used involved etching with hydrofluoric acid, and was often referred to as "embossed" glass. $18.00 2006 Capitol Ornament
Number eleven in the series, this enchanting Capitol Ornament prominently displays the Texas Goddess of Liberty. This outstanding feature of the Capitol stands almost 16 feet tall and weighs about 2,000 pounds. Architect E. E. Myers of Detroit designed the statue as the crowning element of the Texas Capitol. She was originally made of 80 separate cast zinc pieces that were welded together to form four major secitons. Final assembly and installation was completed in late February, 1888. $18.00 2005 Capitol Ornament
Number ten in the series, this classical Capitol Ornament celebrates the enduring beauty of the Capitol rotunda, dome, and pediments featuring the six seals. In 1976, to commemorate the United States Bicentennial, the seals were installed on both the north and south pediments. Each is made from a 1,200-pound slab of sandblasted granite and hand painted with the seal of a country whose flag has flown over Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, the Confederacy, and the United States. $18.00 2004 Capitol Ornament
Number nine in the series, this most unusual Capitol Ornament captures a unique perspective of the magnificent interior rotunda dome. Viewed from over 200 feet below, the impressive three-dimensional Lone Star is approximately eight feet from point to point, and has a gold leaf finish. It is surrounded by the letters "T-E-X-A-S". All of the classical architectural details surrounding the star are typical Renaissance Revival features, and are executed with the finest craftsmanship. $18.00 2003 Capitol Ornament
Number eight in the series, this handsomely detailed Capitol Ornament captures the magnificent pedestrian entrance gates at the main south lawn walkway known as the Great Walk. Completed in 1890, they were part of the overall landscaping design by prominent Texas civil engineer William Munro Johnson. The original wrought iron fence, with its elegant gates, was painted black and featured the fabled five-pointed Lone Star at the head of each paling. Each Lone Star was gilded with gold leaf. $18.00 2002 Capitol Ornament
Number seven in the series, this extraordinary Capitol Ornament features a replica of the elaborately ornate custom-designed bronze hinges found on many of the massive doors throughout the Capitol. Accented with black, the actual eight inch by eight inch original hinges are inscribed with the words "Texas Capitol" and weigh over seven pounds each. They are decorated with incised designs of geometric and stylized floral motifs, reflecting the fashion of the late 1880's, now referred to as Modern Gothic. $18.00 2001 Capitol Ornament
Number six in the series, this beautifully wrought Capitol Ornament features a replica of the detailed watercolor drawing of the Capitol design submitted by E. E. Myers of Detroit. His was one of 11 submissions during the competition for the new Texas statehouse design. In May of 1881 the Capitol Board approved the Myers design. Many problems occurred which created several delays in planning and construction. In 1888 the Texas State Capitol was completed without Myers. $18.00 Journal with Famous Historical Capitol Drawing
